Team Canada – Dance Excellence 2017 Recap

PMDC had the incredible honour of representing Team Canada at this year’s Dance Excellence festival in Los Angeles, California. This invitation only, global event brings together the finest young dancers and dance studios from 27 countries on five continents.

For many of our dancers, this was their first time travelling to California or even the United States. Getting the opportunity to dance in the entertainment capital of the world was a truly remarkable experience for all.

Of course, an international convention of this scale doesn’t happen without some heavy hitting talent. Our dancers had the privilege of learning from some of the dance industry’s most prominent figures including Kathryn McCormick, Mark Goodman, Alex Little, Ade Obayomi, and more. Tap battles, auditioning tips, photos with famous master teachers, and meeting new friends from tons of different countries were all highlights of the masterclasses our dancers participated in.

At the International Performance Boards, the competition portion of the festival, PMDC scored top marks in all five categories we entered. All our routines received “Excellence” awards for scores over 90 per cent – something only a handful of other teams pulled off. Congratulations to all our hard-working dancers and choreographers involved in making our routines stand out in a competition of this magnitude.

Another highlight of our trip was our performance at Disneyland where we had the opportunity to dance at the legendary Fantasyland Theater. Getting this behind-the-scenes sneak peek at what happens to make “Disney magic” a reality was an unforgettable experience for our dancers.
