5.6.7.8… Showtime!

I am so thrilled that my dance competition is only two days away!! I feel pretty confident and yet anxious. I have worked very hard to learn all of my routines. I do also feel a bit shaky because I don’t know what the adjudicator will be expecting to see and I hope can exceed his expectations!! All I can think about is how the feeling of being on stage to dance and perform extremely well; All I can think is, how much fun it’s going to be. Listening to my solo songs and reading over corrections would probably be a good description of me the day before competition. I am the most anxious; I have ever been!

We are only one and half hour’s car ride away from Red Deer where my first competition of the season will be. I am looking forward to the ride because my best friend will be with me in the car ride to competition. It will be the perfect time to just have someone supportive, a someone who will always be happy for you, even if one of us gets a higher mark that the other. That is why I chose my best friend Anna who is also a great dancer and magnificent friend to go along with on this ride. We both get nervous together and give each other last minute feedback before we arrive at the hotel because we want each other to do great! Even though it might not seem like it, the car ride is one of the parts of a dancer’s mental preparation for competition.

As I see the welcome to Red Deer sign, I start getting that competition vibe, that rush that tingles your body, a very hard way to explain feeling. Opening my eyes wide and asking mom: are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are only a few of the feelings I can describe. As soon as we arrive to the Hotel my BFF and I will run to have fun at the pool and join the rest of the PMDC dancers, there we will connect and forget a little about the competition rush. I can’t imagine how hard it’s going to be for me to sleep that night. I feel the competition rush inside my body again, I have Goosebumps thinking of competition but not the frightened type of Goosebumps, the excited type! I close my eyes and all I can see are the lights from the theatre lighting and shining at me on the STAGE!!!
